THE 12 LAWS OF SPIRIT

Louise’s Summary of Dan Millman’s book, The Laws of Spirit
(Simple truths for making life work better)

1.THE LAW OF BALANCE
Practice moderation in all levels of our being—body, mind, and emotions.  Pay attention to doing too much or too little in areas of eating, drinking, exercise, work, or communication.  The Law of Balance assures us that those who give freely, in the spirit of love and generosity, receive in abundance.

2.THE LAW OF CHOICES
Destiny is determined by the actions you take.  No matter what life dishes out, you choose how you will respond internally.  Live each day by choice to do the right thing to the fullest extent.  Sometimes choice means giving up something you want for something else you want more.

3.THE LAW OF PROCESS
Taking life step-by-step.  Enthusiasm sets the pace, but persistence reaches the goal.

4.THE LAW OF PRESENCE
The past is vanished, except in your mind.  What is to come is only a dream.  We     have only this moment.  Past and future are bad habits of the mind.  Presence lightens the mind, liberates you from anxiety, since only the here and now is real.

5.THE LAW OF COMPASSION
Compassion is the recognition that we are each doing the best we can within the limits of our current beliefs and capacities.  In the natural world you have no friends, you have no enemies; you have only teachers.  Let compassion wash away negative thoughts in a wave of love and understanding.  We are all joined in this mystery of life.

6.THE LAW OF FAITH
A higher intelligence is working through all of us for the higher good—there is a purpose for every pleasure and hardship.  Listen to the intuitive wisdom of your heart.  Faith involves the willingness to stretch yourself, make mistakes and learn from them, and to trust in the process of your life.

    7.  THE LAW OF EXPECTATION
In your daily life, if you create positive images, happy circumstances, and      successful outcomes, these become real.  You have the inherent power to shape your life through the images and expectations you create.  Since energy follows thought, we move toward what we can imagine.

8.THE LAW OF INTEGRITY
To live in line with your highest vision despite impulses to the contrary.  It is intelligent to follow the accepted conventions of your society.  Live according to your highest light and more light will be given.  Be who you are meant to be.

9.THE LAW OF ACTION
Only actually doing brings potential to life.  It takes doing to understand and wisdom grows out of practice.

  10.   THE LAW OF CYCLES
Old habits can be changed.  The momentum of change ultimately leads us toward greater awareness, wisdom and peace.  Embrace both good fortune and adversity for their gifts.  Move through the cycles of life without haste or resistance.

  11.   THE LAW OF SURRENDER
Embracing a higher will expressed as the wisdom of the heart.  Ask, in any   situation:  “What is for the highest good of all concerned?”  Have a willingness to welcome each moment without judgment or expectation—rather than waste energy struggling against whatever happens.

12.THE LAW OF UNITY
Leave behind the baggage of fear, envy, conflict, and resentment—fly on wings of understanding and compassion.  Begin to see friends and adversaries, loved ones and strangers, through the truth that we are all One Being.
